Laura T. Barnett (nee Klehr) passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026 surrounded by her loving friends and family.
Laura grew up in Mount Prospect and attended John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. She graduated in 1974 and went on to Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. In 1978 she graduated with a bachelors degree and became a medical technologist. She was one of the first employees at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
Laura was a very special individual who will be remembered by everyone that was fortunate enough to meet her. At just 23 Laura suffered a massive stroke and later endured two brain surgeries. She was quite disabled, but in 47 years never complained.
Laura believed that God‘s reason for her being here was to help others accept their limitations and challenges. She was an active member of Faith Summit Church in Mchenry. She was very thankful for her church family, and all they did for her. It was clear Laura‘s mission in life was to share the word of Jesus Christ. She brought many to know him as their Lord and Savior.
Laura also enjoyed the outdoors. She loved spending time with friends and family and leading Bible studies. She loved all animals, especially her service dogs, Jabba and Tully. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed playing games.
Laura was also a foster mom. She fostered 12 children and in 1993 adopted her daughter Terri, who quickly became the joy of her life.
Laura was preceded in death by her loving parents, Robert Klehr Sr. and Carol Savoy Klehr and niece and nephew, Mary and Alexander.
She has survived by her beloved daughter, Terri Barnett (Dan Tibbitts); loving siblings Robert Jr. (Sue) Klehr, Alan (Chris) Klehr, Christine (Frank) Rutigliano, Peter (Barb) Klehr, Tod (Mary) Klehr and Michael (Kathy) Klehr; caring nieces and nephews, Bridgette, Colleen, Margot, Gina, Jeremy, Kyle, Jacob, Joshua, Collin, Caroline and Megan. Laura also leaves behind many friends too numerous to count.
A celebration of life will be held March 28, 2026 at Faith Summit Church 2614 N. Ringwood Rd., McHenry, IL 60050. A memorial visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM with a memorial service immediately following visitation.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Canine Companions 7480 New Albany-Comdit Rd., New Albany Ohio 43054 https://canine.org/donate-now/ or donations may also be made to Faith Summit Church 2614 N. Ringwood Road McHenry IL 60050.
